1 excellent blog is better than 30 crappy ones

I read an article about how to create a network of blogs in just few months: create some blogspot accounts, with clear niche sites, write an article daily and after some days start another blog and so on. The writer was sure that this network of niche blogs will indeed require some time, but you’ll have some 20-30 blogs in months and money will roll in like crazy.

Wait a second .. there’s something wrong in this picture.

In order for a blog to be successful and really attract attention you’d need some conditions to be met:

  • domain name and normal hosting
  • unique layout
  • hacks installed and more features
  • new articles created frequently: UNIQUE QUALITY articles
  • keeping this up for MANY MANY months till the blog will finally kick start and attract attention, PR and investors.

Working to meet these requirements ON A SINGLE blog is almost a real job. How can a human being work on 30 blogs and not have quality suffer?

People are not idiots. People are not sheep.

As much as we’d like to think we can control our visitors, it’s the other way around. THEY control us. They make us write and force us to work on quality entries.

The most successful blogs are not created on crappy content. Are not built like on a factory line. The best bloggers in the world spend a lot of time creating articles that make it worth reading them.

I spend 20-30 minutes/article in my quest to provide you with the best information I can.

I would be able to create 2 articles/hour. Unique, original and quality articles, because excellent content sells, not stupid news or things that are being rewritten by us because we don’t have the talent to create content on our own. I would need 15 hours a day JUST to write those articles. 15 hours a day EACH day … put some time for promotion, link building, other researches.

Tell me how would I be able to keep such a network with excellent content?

Well .. I couldn’t. I would either need more people involved (that means money) or just lower the quality.

The best people in the blog industry had 1 blog for years. A single blog with awesome content, unique ideas and articles. They didn’t need a 30 free hosted crappy content blogs to succeed. ONE good one.

People are not idiots. They come, see bad content, and leave. It’s simple as that. Good content makes them stay. Unique content makes them come again because they trust you as an authority and want to learn some more.

It’s time we understood that such business plans are not the best thing. Instead of thinking about how to milk money from a sour content parted in 30 blogs understand HOW TO MAKE 1 EXCELLENT BLOG.

Learn how to make it a brand in itself, how to modify that skin so that it doesn’t look like 1000 other blogs. Learn how to write from your experience and soul. After you managed this you won’t need a huge network. You will have one successful blog that will eat your entire work day.

  1. I agree. I see some people create thousands of blogs and don’t spend time on one that will allow their visitors to see that they know what they are talking about and puts the blog on the top of the search engines faster because of the continued fresh content. When you have too many blogs, you may go days without submitting posts.

  2. I’m not really sure how this works either.. It seems like the strategy might be successful if you wrote one post a week on each blog and were willing to work for the long haul.. otherwise I just cant see it working.. SEO and Page Rank is based on alot of factors but one of them is link age.. so if you want to make a million blogs, make them today and get to work on them tommorow.. not my favorite strategy either..

  3. The author may have been referring to a network of sites designed to pass page rank and back links to a main domain, where the better content resides. I have seen this done in order to move 1 site up in the SERPs. But I agree with you, sites with poor content will not benefit the reader and unless there is an ulterior motive, they will not benefit the blogger.

  4. I totally agree that 1 excellent blog is better than 30 crappy ones. It’s really difficult to create many quality blogs, because our abilities are limited: we usually don’t have enough time or money. To my mind, if you do something you should know when, where and how to do it. Remember, that the proof of success is quality, not quantity. Good luck in creating quality blogs.
