Hello, I am nobody!
Monday, November 16th, 2009My country is getting used to all those abbreviations and weird names: CEO, PhD, MBA etc. Since we have a lot of firms coming from other parts of the world with their own hierarchies, you can imagine everyone is an Executive Manager, or General Manager .. Many of the employees “run” after these titles and like using them even when they look a bit … out of place.
While I can always understand the need to know where you stand in a serious corporation, call me weird, but I can’t see why in a small firm or self-employment situation you need to be “somebody”.
I had friends with family business where ALL family members were some sort of a “CEO”. No one was less than a huge butt kicker Manager, even if they could barely survive as a business and their entire operation was home based. Their business cards were amazing. You’d think they sit at the right of the “father” Bill Gates at least, or run Google Inc. Anyway, something huge, at least from what you would read there.
The truth is they are small. The truth is I AM SMALL. Right now I function as a freelancer. I do have my own small web design firm I run from my bedroom. Or from my BF’s bedroom or from a hotel. Wherever I go with my laptop, there’s my amazing office. Yes it’s small. Yes I have nothing to brag about, except for the fact I do earn my living and am no longer taking ..rap from any boss. I am my own boss and the CEO for my business.
And now I ask you: how would it appear for me to get a pompous name for my “job”? In a one-man-show firm I am the worker and the boss, the maid and the executive. Wouldn’t it look funny to put a nice long job title next to my name? Of course you know the size of my business, but hey, I can be “big” too, can’t I?
Well ..
No. I am “nobody”. My business cards have my name on them and 2-3 words about my services. A nice design, the email/site address/normal address and phone number. I am afraid you won’t be impressed with my business cards since I am just Ramona Iftode on them.
My title isn’t important. I don’t have other employees I need to “set apart” from, I don’t need my business cards or titles to say anything about what I can do or not. I have my clients to testify for my skills, I have my portfolio.
So, are you a “nobody” too?
New unique layout for our blog
Sunday, March 22nd, 2009RamonaIftode.com has got a new unique layout, made from zero. A design in Photoshop, sliced and put together. The theme is called “dojo” and it’s my first Wordpress design made from zero and not having the default skin modified. My previews works were looking like this: 24funblog.ro, lifetm.info, lafeminin.info (these are modifications of the default or classic style).
I wasn’t able to see how it looks in Internet Explorer since mine thought it would be nice to mess with me and stop working, the page buttons in the header are to be “mended”, they aren’t all working.
Should you see problems, please let me know. I am sure there are possible errors and you’d be of great help in this matter.
Thank you and welcome to the newly redesigned blog
Promote your web related article
Sunday, April 6th, 2008Wtricks.com is an old site of mine. We have a forum for webmasters to discuss about anything web related but so far the index page (the root of the domain) wasn’t being used to its full potential. It’s now a PR4 page, so I though something needs to be done.
So, now we have a digg like script installed and we’ll be able to promote our articles. There is a twist though: ONLY WEB RELATED ARTICLES.
To be honest, I am sick of trying to get to web articles while digging through menopause related information, eating habits or fleas for dogs. This is why in our project we’ll accept only web related information. It would be easier for us all to find our information there.
Thank you for helping us make it a hit
EntreCash.com - sell/buy/trade your EntreCard credits
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008We have a new site in the network dedicated to all you EntreCard users. It’s a simple classifieds site where we all can trade EntreCard credits for money or other services. Listings are free. We also have some premium listings (where you can put a clickable link to your site, make the ad featured and put a picture too.
What can you trade there? Anything related to your credits:
- buy credits with money (you say how much you are willing to pay for as many credits as you are interested)
- sell credits for money (if you have many, why not get some real money?)
- trade credits for advertising or content (articles)
- promote your entrecard contests
The site is new and I haven’t started the redesign (of course it will be amazing :)). But it’s 100% functional and we can start working on it. Feel free to join.
Weekly revision
Sunday, March 23rd, 2008
I have seen many blogs offer this “roundup” or revision thinggy and I thought it’s a good idea to try this too. Even if we all hated revisions at school, now it’s a good idea to bring back to your attention the articles we have posted in this blog the last week.
Get a domain! - Yes, I am a total snob and I am just getting sick of seeing free hosted sites on God knows what subdomains. I have been there too 5 years ago and I can tell you it’s not a blast. The best thing I was able to do for my sites was to put them on their own domains.
Be consistent! - There is a word in Romania: “you won’t make it spring with just a flower”. So, in order to succeed in anything we need to be consistent. Find out what this means for your site/blog.
How to make sure you don’t escape the validation filter in forums - this is a “mean” article, a parody if you like to call it like this. Some of the things that make me delete an account as soon as I see it created on my forums. Laugh a bit, but do think about these tips next time you register in a community.
Build your BRAND on the forums - speaking of forums: learn how to be easy to recognize on them as an authority, how to build your own “brand” through the communities. For 6 years this has been the BEST way I was able to get quality traffic and business to my network, I think something there does work.
Why I don’t like some star blogs - this is again a “mean” article. I do know about the big bloggers, I do visit them frequently and some of them still attract me like a magnet. Still, there are some things I just dislike and some top bloggers I don’t visit for more than 2 seconds. What to read there in the end aside of tens of paid reviews and way too many affiliate links? Read all about my “problem” in this last article we have posted.
That would be all for this week, let’s hope in a week’s time I’ll be able to link you to even more interesting articles
And since you’re also here why not tell me which article you loved the most?
