My first site was started 8 years ago. I had absolutely no clue about how to design a site (thank god for the crappy Front Page that allowed me to put my first ideas online, with it’s bloated code and all its faults), just wanted to share some ideas and the information I was absorbing like a sponge. Had 3 months of karate training and in Romania there was no site that would actually advise you in this topic. So, I had to create a site that would allow me to share my ideas about this and all the things … Continue reading →
“Why do I exist online?” would be the question I like to ask myself from time to time. OK, I have a network of sites, I am a web designer, I am a content creator and also a forum manager, not to mention blogger. Am I here to make money online? To offer content and help others? Mix these two? Why do others exist? Do they really bring in something good to this world? Would the internet be less rich if their sites would cease existing? Would we all be thrilled to not see them again? I visit tens of … Continue reading →
I have seen many blogs offer this “roundup” or revision thinggy and I thought it’s a good idea to try this too. Even if we all hated revisions at school, now it’s a good idea to bring back to your attention the articles we have posted in this blog the last week. Get a domain! - Yes, I am a total snob and I am just getting sick of seeing free hosted sites on God knows what subdomains. I have been there too 5 years ago and I can tell you it’s not a blast. The best thing I was … Continue reading →
We can refer here to promoting a site, to posting information on the forums or updating our nice blogs. It is important to kick start them with some content and try to keep up the content adding in a REGULAR way. This “regular” should be our main word in here.Having some “content writing sprees” is OK for the first days when we need to create information and post it. Afterwards we get into the so called “maintenance” phase when we need to keep up the posting rhythm and sustain the site’s growth.
I seem to have started posting quite some messages in here. Maybe I’ll make it a good habit Anyway .. back to the task at hand. I just started a topic in the forums about ways people present sites in their online portfolios. To quote my list: 1. each site has his own page in the portfolio, some description, clickable link to it and a snapshot (that’s how dojodesign.ro will have them in few days when I have the time to finish redesigning it) 2. a list with information and clickable links 3. just a list of links 4. just … Continue reading →
Let’s step on some more toes today, dear readers. I was too “nice” lately and it’s time for another post on my very personal web development blog. This time we discuss about the web development courses, online or at different Universities. Time to start with a small personal history too so that we can get to our final conclusions. I am a woman who’s been working as a radio DJ for 8 years now. I should be a teacher at the kindergarten or maybe a teacher at gymnasium/high-school level. Guess what? I am not. I chose the radio business and … Continue reading →
This article is dedicated to all the directory owners (who seem to be quite many since it’s a lucrative project if all done well). Let’s try and learn together the secret of making the directory take his first steps on the web. You just created your directory. You have a nice domain for it, you downloaded a free script (phpLD, indexu or another one), maybe you even paid for it. Now it’s up and running. What do we do next? 1. We style it and install modifications
I was approached few days ago by a woman who claimed she represents a Real Estate Agency. The thing that sent some signals was the fact she used a yahoo.com email address. In the end I might understand this since, if they need me to design the site, it means they don’t have it, so no chances for a site related email address. The message I got looked something like this: “Hello, I represent a Real Estate agency. I would like to know how much a web site would cost”. Here are some of my reasons to not disclose pricing … Continue reading →
